Emily banting broken beyond repair7/8/2023 ![]() Even having her annoyed at the press doesn't help much.Ĭhapter two is where the rear-engine shit really hits the fan, though. I'd rank it low among opening chapters, because while it gives us a fleeting glance at Beatrice's relationship with her son, mostly it paints us a portrait of a rude, haughty and entitled woman. The first chapter introduces us to Beatrice, the intimidating actress entering her fifties and who just broke a leg while shooting some film. Secretly, though, this book is to the Volkswagen Type 2 van what The Love Bug is to the Beetle. The blurb is innocuous enough, making you think it'll just be a celebrity romance with a spot of vanlife for variety. If you are also a self-described slow dyke, enjoy whatever this is. ![]() ![]() Hi there, I'm aslowdyke and you're not, and frankly there's nothing that warns you about the automotive appreciation that goes on in Broken Beyond Repair. ![]()

Witch by Christopher Pike7/8/2023 ![]() Justine did not speak clearly and has a habit of allowing her words to drift into a mumble towards the end of a sentence. That was the first thing that put me off about this audiobook. I didn't like Justine's way of speaking at all. ![]() What didn’t you like about Justine Eyre’s performance? I think I will stick to Gillian Flynn, can't get enough of her books at the moment! What do you think your next listen will be? Maybe someone with more appreciation for Sci-Fi would enjoy this better than I did. The whole story just seemed to drag on and branch out into other stories ultimately to no end. I am a big Pike fan, but I really did not enjoy this book. ![]() ![]() This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more? ![]()

The immortals of meluha audio book7/7/2023 ![]() ![]() Even the management books space has grown with more and more Indian success stories. ![]() From Amish writing on Shiva to Chetan Bhagat writing about Indian youth. However, in the last decade, we have had several new Indian authors. ![]() “A decade ago, there were just a few Indian English writers, Khushwant Singh, Shobha De, Amitav Ghosh and so on. The rising number of Indian writers has helped Reado in more ways than one. For the past two years, they have been showcasing their audiobooks with innovative listening booths, allowing people to experience an audiobook. To do that, one of the tactics Reado adopted was to participate in the ‘World Book Fair’ in Delhi. Their initial challenge was to convince the publishers and also the audience. “We were lucky to have bagged a deal with Penguin India in the beginning,” Siddharth says. Retailers and publishers in India are still not sold on the potential of audiobooks. That also sets us apart from the competition in India.” “Reado is selling audiobooks in both the physical format (CDs) and in the digital downloadable format. ![]() The category is new and local on ground relationships with authors, publishers and distributors matter,” Siddharth says. “And it does not look like they will be making a move into the market any time soon.” That will give Reado enough time to get more Indian authors and publishers on board. Currently, Amazon does not have its audiobooks division in India. ![]()

![]() ![]() As a critic of both fascism and what he called the culture industry, his writings-such as Dialectic of Enlightenment (1947), Minima Moralia (1951) and Negative Dialectics (1966)-strongly influenced the European New Left.Īmidst the vogue enjoyed by existentialism and positivism in early 20th-century Europe, Adorno advanced a dialectical conception of natural history that critiqued the twin temptations of ontology and empiricism through studies of Kierkegaard and Husserl. He was a leading member of the Frankfurt School of critical theory, whose work has come to be associated with thinkers such as Ernst Bloch, Walter Benjamin, Max Horkheimer, Erich Fromm, and Herbert Marcuse, for whom the works of Freud, Marx, and Hegel were essential to a critique of modern society. Rebecca solnit book7/6/2023 ![]() When Solnit writes that travel is becoming “less important than arrival,” she is referring to vehicles and computers, which deliver things like her book to my door without the delight of happening upon them outside. Yet “Wanderlust” is also a requiem for walking, a practice slowly excised by our era’s “anxiety to produce.” Things have only gotten gloomier since 2000, when Solnit published the book she had yet to meet the contemporary walker, who, if anything like me, returns from a stroll having encountered not “new thoughts and possibilities” but the familiar app-strewn landscape of her smartphone. ![]() If walking supplies “the unpredictable incidents . . . that add up to a life,” Solnit writes, anyone dissuaded from it is denied a “vast portion of their humanity.” ![]() In it, she traces walking’s relationship to culture and politics, studying the ambles of poets, philosophers, revolutionaries, and, in a remarkable chapter, women fighting for the right to wander and muse as men do, without hoop skirts or scandal. Recently, I ordered Rebecca Solnit’s “ Wanderlust” on Amazon, which, in retrospect, seems a violation of the book’s instruction to walk in the world, where you can “find what you don’t know you are looking for.” It was February in New York, and I had been existing in what Solnit calls “a series of interiors-home, car, gym, office, shops.” (Minus the gym, naturally). ![]()

The Immortality Game by Ted Cross7/6/2023 ![]() ![]() The critics are generous with praise this time around. Who could have thought that a story-driven indie game was capable of captivating our attention? IMMORTALITY reviews are in, and people are taken by surprise. ![]() IMMORTALITY reviews are overwhelmingly positive If the premise hasn't taken away your breath just yet, there're plenty of reasons that might persuade you to at least consider IMMORTALITY cheap. By putting your detective skills into action, you'll start uncovering multiple layers of this mystery. Sam Barlow has prepared a captivating story about a missing actress that we discover by carefully going over the footage of unreleased movies. Some might wonder, "Why are you writing about some interactive movie game instead of covering more popular AAA titles?" Trust us, the upcoming project from the creator of Her Story and Telling Lies is more promising than it appears to be. ![]() |
